I started baking in 2003 while in remission from Ovarian Cancer, it was a form of therapy for me. I started with cupcakes and pies, then cookies and specialty candies. In 2009 I wanted to open a cupcake shop but I had got married in 2008 and my husband was in the USAF. While we lived in Connecticut our life was about to change. We were in the middle of a move from New England to New Mexico. I was known to friends early on as the cupcake and cookie baker, I baked for social events and friends. In 2011 we welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Patrick. Early on we learned he was on the spectrum so I did a lot of research and made everything he ate from scratch. I wanted to ensure he had a somewhat clean diet free of dyes and preservatives. I baked bread, pop tarts, muffins, scones, literally everything he ate was made from scratch. When Allen got out of the USAF in 2014 we chose to move back to Connecticut to plant roots and grow into the community we grew to love while living there. We purchased a home in the West shore part of town in West Haven. Here is where I started working for a gourmet food business. They specialized in poultry and other delicacies. I worked along side a CIA Chef that had many friends in the industry and soon made some of my own. I would bake things for everyone to taste, send packages to Boston or NYC for chef friends to try, one of those friends is a James Beard Awardee. I'd ask a lot of questions to make something better and retained a lot of information I didn't already know. I started immersing myself in the community and donated dozens of cookies over the years to non-profits for Christmas baskets that went to families. I even entered an Apple Pie contest and won 2nd Place.
During COVID I would bake to pass time and started ding-dong ditching friends and neighbors by leaving baked goods to cheer them up. And so started my baking business. My husband Allen, assists with making labels, maintaining my website, and helping to package and load goodies when needed. Now you'll see one of us running in and out of our house adding different items to my Bake Stand outside our home or, hopefully another year at the West Haven Farmers Market this summer.
